    The Infection Preventionist is a vital member of our mission.

    In this role you will be responsible for the prevention, investigation, monitoring and reporting of the spread of diseases in hospitals.  Conducts, monitors and evaluates the CMC Infection Prevention surveillance program to reduce the risk of transmission of infectious diseases to patients, visitors, volunteers, physicians and employees. Works closely with the Director, Infection Prevention team and the rest of the CMC community to implement Infection Prevention policies, procedures and programs. Provides Infection Prevention education, conducts epidemiological investigations and recommends improvements. Serves as an Infection Prevention consultant to the CMC community. In conjunction with the Chairman of Infection Control Committee and in consultation with CMC Leadership, may institute any appropriate control measures, isolation procedures, or studies when there is an immediate infection risk to patients or personnel.

    • Acts as a consultant and resource in infection prevention for the CMC staff, patients and their family, physicians, and practitioners from other facilities.
    • Monitors and conducts epidemiological investigations of any clusters of infections above expected levels, single cases of unusual infections and emerging infectious diseases.
    • Develops, and conducts continuing in-service education programs for CMC employees and practitioners to ensure that infection prevention policies and procedures are adhered to.
    • Periodically reviews and revises the Infection Prevention manual.
    • Reports to and participates in the CMC Infection Control committee.
    • Maintains records of infection prevention surveillance activities. Prepares written reports as appropriate and required.
    • Assists in coordinating infection related employee health issues and employee exposure follow-up with Employee Health.
    • Utilizes leadership skills to enhance the work environment.
    • Ensures mandated reporting requirements are met to include the state and local Public Health Department, CMS and all other required reporting entities.
    • Facilitates collaboration with subject matter experts to develop infection prevention related practices, policies and procedures.
    • Develops, manages, and/or consults on databases and systems to perform clinical analyses of current performance as compared to national guidelines and/or benchmarks.
    • Maintains current knowledge of federal and state regulatory requirements. Offer recommendations for practice changes to meet regulatory requirements and CMC priorities and goals for patient safety.
    • Organizes and prioritizes workload as needed based on departmental and hospital priorities.
    • Monitors patient care and other essential areas/service lines for environmental deficits and risks as they relate to infection prevention.


    Minimum required:

    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or field of specialty and three years related experience.
    • Completion of basic course in Infection Control recognized by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC) OR obtain within two years of hire.


    • Master’s degree in Nursing or field of specialty.
    • Experience in Infection Prevention, Healthcare Education, Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases, Employee Health or Public Health.  



    Minimum required:

    • Current California RN license, valid State of California Pharmacist license or other applicable clinical license.
    • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) upon hire OR within three years of employment.
