  • Overview

    Assist in supporting the Materials Management program by analyzing and implementing hospital and Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) contracts. Responsible for identifying and analyzing opportunities to establish contractual relationships with suppliers for products, equipment and services. Develops and issues Request for Proposals (RFP) using a competitive bidding process. Facilitates the contract negotiations, contract development and implementation of each pursued opportunity. Presents findings and recommendations to the designated Value Analysis Team (VAT) with the use of analyses, charts and graphs to support findings. Responsible for on-going contract compliance and maintenance of contracts. Administer all contracts and contract databases on a timely basis.  



    • Assist in conducting proactive analysis to identify and implement cost reduction opportunities in supplies and services.
    • Provide support to management in monitoring supply chain benchmarks for supply costs.
    • Provide information and analysis to management on contract compliance, supply utilization and standardization opportunities.
    • Support management and/or the VAT with all activities pertinent to the completion of VAT goals and objective.
    • Participate in the evaluation of GPO supply contract to determine suitability to our hospital needs and interest.
    • Analyze and develop reports on contract gaps in Hospital Item Master file and Accounts Payable file.
    • Identify opportunities to effectively leverage the system’s size and scope when negotiating for supplies, equipment and services.
    • Negotiate with suppliers to reduce costs of supplies and services.
    • Support contract management functions in the Materials Management Information System.
    • Provide the financial impact for each GPO agreement and hospital negotiated agreement.
    • Review invoices and contract tier levels to ensure the hospital is receiving the maximum contractual benefit.
    • Coordinate with hospital legal counsel or corporate contract administration department as appropriate on hospital negotiated contracts.
    • Follow hospital policies and procedures, objectives for quality, product safety, and infection control, environmental and with requirements from accreditation and regulatory agencies.
    • Maintain an organized contract database to ensure hospital terms, conditions and contract expiration dates are monitored.


    Bachelor's degree. Five or more years of progressively responsible purchasing and contracting experience in a large hospital or multi-hospital system may be substituted in lieu of education.


    Preferred: Certified Material and Resource Professional (CMRP) through the American Hospital Association (AHA) or a Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) through the Institute for Supply Management.
