Conducts, monitors and evaluates the CMC Infection Control surveillance program to reduce the risk of transmission of infectious diseases to patients, visitors, volunteers, physicians and employees. Works closely with the infection control manager and team and the rest of the CMC community to implement infection control policies, procedures and programs. Provides infection control education, conducts epidemiological investigations recommends improvements. Serves as an infection control conultant to the CMC community. The Infection Control Specialist in conjunction with the Chairman of the Infection Control Committee and in consultation with CMC Leadership, may institute any appropriate control measures, isolation procedures, or studies when there is an immediate infection control risk to patients or personnel.
Diploma or degree in Nursing or Bachelor's degree in related field plus approximately three years related experience. Completion of basic course in infection control recognized by Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC) within two (not one) years of hire, if not completed previously.
PREFERRED: Knowledge of patient care practices, education, epidemiology, infectious diseases, employee health, sterilization/disinfection/sanitation processes. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS MINIMUM REQUIRED: Current RN or Med Tech California State Licensed.
PREFERRED: Certification in Infection Control (CIC).
