Newborn Screening Laboratory
Our Newborn and Prenatal (NAPS) Lab operates as a reference lab with Community Regional Medical Centers’ Core Lab under the State of California. It holds a revenue producing contract with the state supporting 12 counties in the southeast region of California. All procedures, policies, instrumentation, testing, and funds are provided by California. The state will train the Supervisor on each new test and procedure. In the last year, we’ve tested 153,000 newborn specimens and 115,000 prenatal specimens.
This role entails you to serve as a resource/mentor for staff in providing answers to questions and resolving problems, facilitate and educate staff in performing their job duties in compliance with State contract requirements, regulatory policies, laboratory policies, corporate policies, and safety policies. The Supervisor communicates, implements and supports organizational directives. You will coordinate the Quality Control activities of the section, establishes acceptable levels of analytical performance and ensures that these levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process as relates to the section. You will coordinate section participation in the Laboratory Proficiency Testing program and also develop and monitors processes that ensures patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions are taken. Expectations are to performance annual evaluations of all staff in out appraisal process, in a consistent and timely manner.
You will help you assist the Director in budget process, evaluating and providing analysis for new projects and methods, identifying necessary capital budget items, monitoring section's financial performance impact on Laboratory's operational goals. You’ll need to act as direct liaison to the Department of Health Services personnel, Area Service Coordinators, and Technical Service Vendors regarding all aspects of the State NAPS Program, providing consultation regarding technical, clerical processes, instrumentation, and problem resolution. Monthly, you will review invoices received from the Department of Health Services for the correct number of newborn screening cases, approve for payment, and submit invoices back. Your other tasks involve staff scheduling, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions as needed, etc.
We are looking for someone who is collaborative in a team environment and who will in turn motivate and coach with patience. As a successful Supervisor, you will be team oriented by involving your employees in decision making for process improvements. Ideally, you will be a working supervisor with ability to work the bench and review test results of all employees. As the leader of our NAPS Lab, you will be a licensed California Clinical Lab Scientist and have five (5) years' CLS experience, with three (3) years supervisory experience. Additionally, a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or in a Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science is required.
