Responsibilities

A resident is an individual at any level of graduate medical/dental education in a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for medical residents or the American Dental Association (ADA) for dental residents. Trainees in subspecialty programs are specifically included. Graduate medical education programs focus on the development of clinical skills and professional competencies. Residents are classified according to their postgraduate year (PGY-1-4) of training.

Qualifications

Education
• Doctoral Degree in Dentistry (DDS or DMD) from an accredited Medical/Dental School required
• Passage of required examinations prior to licensure required
 
Licenses and Certifications
• BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification required
• Dental residents must adhere to the requirements of the Dental Board of California

Additional Requirements / Information
• To participate in the Dental Residency Program, residents must hold a doctoral degree in dentistry or be currently enrolled with a graduation date before the start of the residency program.
• Recent graduates may be granted additional time to submit official transcripts within thirty (30) days of the start of the residency program.
• The Residency Program Director has the discretion to extend the time frame, if needed, for out of state candidates and other circumstances.
• It is the sole responsibility of the resident to comply with all requirements. If the resident fails to fulfill their requirements, the Dental Residency Program reserves the right to terminate the resident’s contract.
