Responsibilities

SURGICAL ASSISTANT

  • In this role you will prepare and maintain supplies and orderliness of work area to provide smooth work flow in operating room suite.
  • Maintain an emergency backup cart, backup supplies in the core, and other storage areas, and return any unnecessary supplies to SPD.
  • You will be expected to provide safe transportation to and from the operating room, maintain a clean environment, equipment and specialty carts in the surgical area, and assist in room turnover, and prepares for following cases.
  • You’ll need to assist in lifting/transferring patients from stretcher or bed to operating room table, and monitor and document refrigerator temperatures and adjustments.
  • Provide ancillary support to anesthesia provider if anesthesia support is not available.
  • Transport specimens, obtains blood and blood products.
  • Occasionally you will perform functions as a unit secretary in surgical services and performs the following functions: answers telephones, takes scheduling information and updates the schedule as directed and needed by the charge nurse.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements include:

  • High School Diploma/ GED.
  • Current BLS certification.
