Responsibilities

  • Processes surgical instrumentation by decontamination (cleaning) utilizing various mechanical or manual methods.
  • Prepares trays and packs by organizing in a prescribed manner while carefully checking for broken or missing items.
  • Performs sterilization procedures utilizing several of acceptable methodologies.
  • Reports defective or missing items to the team leader or manager.
  • Maintains storage and adequate supplies of sterilized instrumentation.
  • Provides department support to staff by assisting them in locating an item.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education
• High School Diploma, High School Equivalency (HSE) or Completion of a CHS Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required
 
Experience
• Experience in a medical or hospital environment, preferably working with medical/surgical supplies required or
• Current enrollment or completion of a Sterile Processing/Central Service Technician program required
• Microbiology and/or knowledge of steam and Ethylene Oxide sterilization preferred
 
Licenses and Certifications
• CRCST - Certified Registered Central Services Technician Certification from IAHCSMM preferred
• BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) preferred
