Responsibilities

The Assistant Manager of Skilled Nursing/ADON is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of patient care performed by nursing personnel within their assigned skilled nursing facility/service area. This role will work closely with and support the nursing manager/DON to ensure the delivery of high-quality service and compliance with federal, state and local rules and regulations. Provides coordination and oversight of patient assignments, staff scheduling, patient flow and assists in meeting financial targets by effectively assisting in managing utilization, productivity, personnel and supplies.

 

Accountabilities

  • Assists the nursing manager/DON in planning, developing and supervising the daily activities of the nursing personnel and oversees staffing needs for the assigned facility/service area.
  • Collaborates with the facility/service area leaders to develop, implement and evaluate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Oversees clinical operations and quality assurance. Monitors the delivery of nursing care to residents/patients. Conducts regular assessments of needs, conditions and care plans and participates in clinical meetings as necessary.
  • Provides coverage for the nursing manager/DON and fills in for the nursing staff, providing direct patient care as needed.
  • Oversees medication management practices, including administration, storage and documentation; ensures accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates and provides ongoing in-service, education and training for the nursing staff to enhance clinical skills, knowledge and competency.
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, participates in regulatory surveys, audits and inspections. Keeps abreast of regulatory changes and assists with developing and implementing changes appropriately.
  • Maintains effective communication with the nursing manager/DON, nursing staff, interdisciplinary team members, residents, patients, families and external stakeholders.
  • Directly responsible (with support from Human Resources) for employee engagement and people management processes including interviewing and selection, time and attendance approval, providing timely feedback and performance evaluations, employee development, employee retention, disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency (HSE) or Completion of a CHS Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred

Experience: 

  • 2 years of relevant experience in the healthcare industry or a healthcare setting required
  • Previous leadership experience in the healthcare industry or a healthcare setting required
  • Previous experience in a skilled nursing facility or long-term care setting preferred

Licenses and Certifications:

  • RN - Current and valid Registered Nurse license to work within the state of California required
  • BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required
