Community Medical Centers has been providing central California with the highest level of care available in the region. Community Regional Medical Center measures up with top hospitals nationally and is the 3rd largest in California! With 685 beds, we are home to the only comprehensive Burn and Level I Trauma center between Los Angeles and Sacramento. The 56,000 square-foot emergency department is one of the largest and busiest in California! We have an 84-bed Level III NICU and plan to significantly expand pediatric specialty care. Our hospital serves 2.5 million people within 9 counties, averaging a daily census of 641 patients. We�re affiliated with UCSF as a teaching facility; trained 3,000 Medical Doctor�s to date plus continuous invests in research and training grants.

Responsibilities

Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean and inviting environment for the benefit of all patients, visitors and staff. Disinfects patient care areas with the goal of limiting the spread of pathogens and preventing hospital acquired infections. Contributes to efficient patient throughput by cleaning rooms in a timely manner. Works both independently and as part of a team. Provides direction, guidance and training to Environmental Services (EVS) staff and participates in process improvement activities. Leads the shift in daily operation. Responsible for coverage of information and exercises in the shift huddle. Ensures technicians are assigned to a work assignment area and that area needs are being met to the extent able. Uses EPIC system to monitor work flow and acts as a guide to technicians.


Accountabilities

1. Responsible for daily operations including shift assignments, sectors, delegating assignments, etc. Responds to department requests and assigns/communicates requests to the appropriate technicians. Ensures accurate and complete logs, records and documentation.
2. Assists supervisor with scheduling, coverage for breaks/lunches, reporting all injuries and near misses to leadership in a timely manner.
3. Follows and teaches infection prevention principles, including standard, contact, airborne, and droplet precautions.
4. Follows and teaches safe chemical handling practices, including the use of personal protective equipment, using the appropriate chemical for the job, and knowledge of how to locate the product Safety Data Sheet.
5. Follows and teaches standardized system for cleaning (cleans from top to bottom, left/right, and from cleanest surface to dirtiest). Teaches technicians to clean/disinfect daily area assignment and discharged patient rooms/restrooms thoroughly according to department standards and documents work.
6. Performs inspections according to department protocols and policies to ensure consistency and quality.
7. Practices and provides training of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explain, Thank) principles to EVS staff.
8. Removes (Solid and Bio hazardous) waste and transports to disposal area and handles each waste stream according to applicable rules and regulations (e.g. regulated medical waste, pharmaceutical, recycle, soiled linen and solid waste). Handles hazardous waste like chemotherapy/RCRA waste.
9. Understands the emergency codes used within the hospital and responds appropriately to emergency situations.
10. Monitors and minimizes waste, including the over use of chemicals, cleaning tools, and supplies.
11. Participates and/or leads in departmental performance improvement initiatives. Proactively handles any improvement opportunities or concerns.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education
• High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) or Completion of a CMC Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required

 

Experience
• 1 year of experience working in an environmental service position required
• 2 years of experience working in Environmental Services within a hospital environment preferred

 

Licenses and Certifications
• One of the following is required within 1 year of hire or transfer into position
      o CHEST - Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician by the Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE)
      o TCHEST - Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician Training Program by the Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE)
o DOT - Department of Transportation for Hazardous Waste Generator preferred
