In this role you will, under direction of the surgeon, renders direct patient care as part of the perioperative team by assisting the surgeon in the surgical treatment of the patient that may include: maintaining hemostasis, providing wound exposure, mobilization of tissue, manipulation of tissues with instrumentation, suturing and wound closure, and other surgical tasks. Review pertinent patient data prior to surgical procedure, including History & Physical, Lab, and Radiology studies. Assist the operative team in patient positioning and preparation of the operative site.
The RN First Assistant (RNFA) may not concurrently function as the Scrub Nurse while functioning as an RNFA.
Minimum requirements include:
Bachelor degree in Nursing and one year relevant experience in area of specialty. Successful completion of an RNFA program that meets the Association of Perioperative RN (AORN) standards. Credentialed by the CMC Medical Staff Office as an Allied Health Professional and privileged to perform RN First Assistant standardized procedures.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS MINIMUM REQUIRED: Current California Registered Nurse License. Current BLS certification. Current ACLS certification or obtained within 6 months of entry into job.
PREFERRED: Current Certified RN First Assistant (CRNFA) certification and/or Certification in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR) from the Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI).
