Assign ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 codes for statistical and reimbursement requirements to inpatient and/or outpatient accounts. Adheres to official coding guidelines when coding with accuracy and completeness as supported by documentation. Interact with physicians and other areas when additional coding information is needed. Appropriately utilizes encoder and coding references.
MINIMUM REQUIRED: High School Diploma/GED. Completion of courses in Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology. One (1) year recent outpatient or emergency department coding experience in an acute care setting. Intermediate skills in ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 coding.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM REQUIRED: Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
Effective 05.28.2018, current incumbents in the position have three (3) years to meet the criteria of the Coder 1 position to remain eligible in the role. All new employees will need to have it immediately.
